Cars in German Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were notified by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.

A senior political figure said the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.

"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
